what are some ways you discipline your toddler that work for you?

my son is 3 years old and getting out of control. he doesn't mind me, he wont eat his food, he tells me no, etc. im tired of repeating myself and constantly yelling at him. what are some effective ways of disciplining?

Time out works for us. When we first started doing it my daughter would cry and try to get out of it but I just took her back without saying a word. Once she stayed in the timer started, 1 minute for every year of age she was. When her time ended I would go over to her and make her tell me why she was in time out and then say sorry to me. A few times of that was all it took. Consistancy is key. If you threaten to punish you need to follow through or kids learn their actions have no consiquences. Another thing they do at her preschool is tell the kids they made a bad choice. That way they understand it is a choice to behave badly and that is why they are in trouble.
